Conners 3rd Edition® (Conners 3®)
Clinical | Educational | Abilities | Neuropsychology | Psychopathology | Clinical Diagnosis
The Conners 3 is a thorough and focused assessment of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and its most common comorbid disorders in children and adolescents. A revision of the Conners Rating Scales–Revised (1997), the Conners 3 integrates the same key elements as its predecessor with a number of new features, including Validity scales, Screener items, Critical items, Impairment items, an assessment of Executive Functioning and strengthened linkage to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5), whilst still accounting for home, social, and school settings.
ASSESSMENT SCALES
The Conners 3 contains the following:
- Content Scales – Inattention, Hyperactivity/Impulsivity, Learning Problems, Executive Functioning, Defiance/Aggression, Peer and Family Relations
- DSM-5 aligned Symptom Scales – ADHD Inattentive, ADHD Hyperactive/Impulsive, Conduct Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder
In addition, the Conners 3 also includes two auxiliary scales:
- Conners 3 ADHD Index (Conners 3AI™): A 10-item ADHD index which can be used to screen large groups of children or adolescents, monitor the effectiveness of treatment plans and measure a child’s response to intervention. This index is included in the full-length version of the assessment and can also be purchased separately.
- Conners 3 Global Index(Conners3GI™): A fast and efficient measure of general psychopathology and a helpful tool in monitoring treatment and intervention. This index is included in the full-length version (for parent and teacher forms) of the assessment and can also be purchased separately.
AREAS OF APPLICATION
The Conners3 is invaluable when making decisions about clinical diagnoses and educational eligibility, during intervention planning and monitoring, in research contexts, and for screening purposes.
REPORT OPTIONS
The Conners 3 has the following software reports available:
- Assessment Reports: Comprehensive reports that present scores for each scale numerically and graphically. The Conners 3 full-length form results are reported in relation to the DSMV diagnostic criteria and include a detailed description of each scale.
- Progress Reports: Compare the results of two to four administrations for the same individual to measure changes over time, making them ideal to use when monitoring treatment and intervention.
Comparative Reports: These reports combine the results of different raters to provide an overview of an individual's scores from a multi-rater perspective, highlighting potentially important inter-rater differences in scores.
SOUTH AFRICAN RESEARCH
Although South African research and norms are not yet available for the Conners 3, JVR Psychometrics is actively looking for opportunities to partner with clients in conducting validation studies.
